Run by famed Kyoto tea producer Ippōdō – which celebrated 300 years of business in 2017 – this teahouse is a fantastic place to experience the myriad pleasures of ocha, Japanese green tea. It's also one of the few places that serves koicha, 'thick tea', which is even thicker than ordinary matcha. Sets are accompanied by a pretty, seasonal wagashi (Japanese sweet).
If you sit at the counter, the staff will show you how to make the tea in the proper Japanese fashion. Packaged teas and tea utensils are sold in the small, attached shop.
