Shibuya's dining scene is deceptive: hang out around Shibuya Center-gai and it's all fast-food joints, cheap izakaya (Japanese pub-eateries) and chain restaurants aimed at a younger, cash-strapped crowd (not a bad thing!). But head towards the fringes, to neighbourhoods like Shinsen, Tomigaya and the unnamed, somewhat forlorn triangle between Aoyama-dōri and Route 246, and you'll find some seriously good restaurants frequented by locals in the know. In a pinch, the restaurant floors at Shibuya Hikarie and Shibuya Stream, both connected to Shibuya Station, have decent offerings.
