Take to the skies on the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway and admire the breathtaking autumn leaves scenery spread below you before exploring the charming city of Takayama on this day trip from Nagoya to Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. There are only two departure dates (October 3 & 6) so get booking now!
The tour departs from Nagoya station at 7:20am heading to Takayama in Gifu Prefecture for a day discovering what the city has to offer. The first stop is a spot of shopping in Nyukawa, an area of Takayama city, where you can gather supplies you wish to have for the day (lunch*, snacks, drinks, souvenirs etc.) Alternatively, you can just stretch your legs ater a long morning bus journey. *Lunch is not included in the tour price. An optional bento box is on offer at JPY1,000 per person (tea included.) If you are not interested, then please bring your own lunch or buy it at Nyukawa, during a rest break or when there is free time in the itinerary.Get back on the bus after 20 minutes and approach the boarding point for the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway. This ropeway has several unique features including being the first two-tiered gondola car system in Japan and ascending an incredible 1,000m during the journey. Enjoy the spectacular autumn scenery of the Okuhida region spread beneath you at 2,156m above sea level. Once at the top, gasp at the maginificent 3,000m high mountains of the Northern Alps. As the ropeway journey is made up of two legs (initial 200m climb on a single-story car and then 800m on the double decker car) you can pop into the Shin-Hotaka Visitors Center, restaurants and gift shops on the way to the top. You will spend a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes at the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway. After returning back down to the ground, the tour visits the city of Takayama, known as 'Little Kyoto' for its quaint old historic streets packed full of character that reminds visitors of the much larger former capital of Japan. You have 1 hour and 20 minutes to explore the area such as the well-preserved wooden buildings of the Old Town (Sanmachi), Nakabashi Bridge and the numerous shrines and temples. Board the bus for the final time as it make its way back to Nagoya Station at around 20:00.
