Getting There & Away

Shingū can be reached from Osaka to the west and Nagoya to the east. Reserved-seat Kuroshio liner limited-express (tokkyū) trains run six times daily on the JR Kinokuni line to Shingū from Tennōji (Osaka; ¥6690, four hours) and Shin-Osaka (¥6690, 4¼ hours).

From Nagoya there are four daily JR Wideview Nanki liner limited-express trains bound for Shingū (¥6870, 3½ hours); this route uses a small section of private-rail track, so JR Pass holders need to pay a surcharge of ¥820 to ride.

Buses depart from stop 2 in front of Shingū Station for Hongū Taisha-mae (¥1540, one hour 20 minutes, 14 daily). A few of these buses also stop at the onsen villages of Kawa-yu (¥1540, one hour), Watarase (¥1540, one hour) and Yunomine (¥1540, one hour 10 minutes) en route.
