Located in the main concourse on the 2nd floor of the Kyoto Station building that runs between the shinkansen (bullet train) station and the front of the station (near JR Isetan Department Store), this is the main tourist information centre in Kyoto. English speakers are always on hand and, occasionally, speakers of other European and Asian languages are available.
Its overloaded with useful information and stocks helpful maps of the city, as well as bus maps, and can answer most of your questions. Note that it’s called ‘Kyo Navi’ in Japanese (in case you have to ask someone). It also has a couple of computer terminals with internet (10 min, ¥100).
