Furukawa Matsuri

Parade in Hida-Furukawa

Furukawa Matsuri – informally known as Hadaka Matsuri (Naked Festival) – consists of parades of yatai (festival floats). The highlight is an event known as Okoshi Daiko: on the night of 19 April, squads of boisterous young men, dressed in fundoshi (loincloths) and fuelled by sake, parade through town. They compete to place small drums atop a stage bearing a giant drum.

OK, it's not naked naked, but you can see how the festival got its nickname.
