Welcome to Fuji-Yoshida
Fuji-Yoshida (富士吉田) was once teeming with oshi-no-ie (pilgrims' inns) where Fuji worshippers stayed before climbing the mountain, though these days only one or two still operate. There is more historic atmosphere here than at Kawaguchi-ko, but it's less convenient for sightseeing in the Fuji Five Lakes area. The central district, Gekkō-ji (月江寺), feels like the little town that time forgot, with original mid-20th-century facades. Fujisan Station is in the centre of Fuji-Yoshida, but if you're heading straight to one of the hostels, the closer stop is Gekkō-ji.
