Furarīto Alley

Japanese in Asahikawa

This rambling collection of tiny restaurants runs the length of an alley between 4-jō-dōri and 5-jō-dōri, about a 10-minute walk north of the train station. Wander along (loosely translated, furarīto means wander) and see what looks good – options include yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), izakaya (Japanese-style pubs) and even a tapas restaurant. Prices vary, but none of these restaurants is expensive.

Mornings are quiet; head here after 5pm when things really start hopping.
