You can experience Hanami picnic with your own homemade bento! At Takaranoniwa in Kita-Kamakura, you will learn how to make onigiri (rice ball) and pack your own bento box with side dishes, with the local professional bento caterer, Suetei. You can also use leaves from the garden to garnish your bento box. We will hike up to a nearby park that is a popular hanami spot in Kamakura. Bentos taste even better under the cherry blossoms! You can take home the empty lunch box as a souvenir. Kids are welcome (6+ years), as are vegans and vegetarians (please let us know when you register.) *We will eat bento and enjoy some blossoms from inside if it rains.

It is an over 80- year-old Japanese folk house in the forested valley of Jochiji-temple, one of the zen temples of Kamakura. (We will stay at Takaranoniwa and have lunch there when it rains.)Built in 1965, Genjiyama Park is a public park that was built to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Kamakura era, started by Minamoto-no-Yoritomo. The park’s name originates from Yoritomo’s ancestor Minamoto-no-Yoshiie, who is said to have hoisted a white flag with the Minamoto family name "Genji" on it atop a mountain, as a prayer for victory in battle.
