Maybe you have seen a picture of a Bamboo grove in Japan once in your life. This is the highlight of Arashiyama, an area where ancient aristocrats had their villas more than 1,000 years ago. On this tour, mainly you will visit a beautiful bridge called the Togetsukyo and the Tenryu-ji temple with beautiful traditional gardens, Bamboo grove, Sagano area. Have you heard of the kimono forest and god of hair? On the way, you also visit some secret spots where tourists don't know. While enjoying the walk and delicious food, also learn some Japanese culture and history, such as the difference between temple and shrine. Let's explore Arashiyama and Sagano local area with the local guide!
This tour will start in front of the ticket gate on the 2nd floor of JR Saga-Arashiyama Station where you will meet your guide at 10:45 AM. The guide will explain this tour including your food menu and give you three useful Japanese expressions, in order to your whole trip should be more comfortable, and then, make a team building for a whole small group. That is a kind of ceremony for starting your 3.5 hours journey. Almost five minutes later, you will have Special Croquette in Arashiyama and fabulous Soy milk donuts in a local Tofu shop. Then, you will head to a quiet and scenic temple with greenish moss and a gate with thatched roof in Sagano area. There, you could learn Japanese authentic sense of beauty. This place is also famous as a pension of ancient Japanese poet.  *In Autumn, this area is very beautiful due to the colorful autmn leaves, also in the other season you could enjoy amazing greenish world!! After enjoying the old temple, you will head to Bamboo groove. Before that, there is a small shrine with divine for one part of our body. You may learn the uniqueness of Japanese tradition. To go through the bamboo groove, you must feel as you are in the different world. It is a good idea to walk slow in the bamboo groove with taking photos or hear some tips about bamboo from your guide. Beside the end of bamboo groove, there is a gate of huge Zen temple, Tenryu-ji. Tenryuji Temple is registered as a world heritage site and ranked first among the five greatest Zen temples in Kyoto. The fame of Tenryuji Temple comes from its Zen style garden remaining the original form from 14th century. You could know what exactly Zen style garden is and must be impressed. To leave Tenryu-ji Temple, you will be on the main street in Arashiyama. Your guide will take you to iconic Togetsukyo bridge. Togetsukyo Bridge which, as the area's landmark, dates back to the 9th century and provides a good photo oppotunity for visitors. On the way, your guide will introduce some special stores where you can taste Japanese spice and Dashi. Also, you will have delicious local-style pancake with much green onion and deep fried Yuba fish cake at one of the most popular shop in Arashiyama area. Both Yuba (tofu skin) and green onion are the special foods in Kyoto. After across the Togetsukyo Bridge, let's have a short brake with Japanese sweets and matcha. If you prefer, you can buy some special souvenirs as well. At the end of your tour, you can come back to Togetsukyo bridge. Of course, your guide could advice you about your travel plan in Kyoto like your local friend!! Also, if we have time, your guide takes you into a mountain path to Horinji Temple which is not tourist-crammed but very tasteful and common place for local people. From Horin-ji, you can overview the whole Arashiyama area.
