Welcome to Whitehouse & Around
The green mountains slope steeply down almost directly into cool dollops of sea and sky in southeastern Westmoreland parish, shading the narrow coastal road and the fishing villages that cling to it. This sleepy stretch of hills is known as Surinam Quarters. The main settlements are Bluefields, Belmont and Whitehouse, with the first two sharing a spectacular stretch of coast. Belmont in particular attracts visitors who eschew luxury for getting way off the beaten path. Book into a little homestay out here and you may lose yourself in the slow pace of life for a week. Or a month. Or longer, as attested by some truly shaggy long-term expats.
