Franco Furlanetto

Arts & Crafts in San Polo & Santa Croce

Masks and violins inspire Franco’s designs for forcole (gondola oarlocks) and remi (oars), hand-carved on-site from blocks of walnut, cherry and pear wood. There’s a science to each creation, perfectly weighted and angled to propel a vessel forward, but also a delicate art. For its sculptural finesse, Franco’s work has been shown in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
