Hello, I am looking for help organizing a visit to the Amalfi Coast and Path of Gods at the end of July. We are a family of 4 (with 2 teens), and this is our first time in Italy. We are planning on going from Naples to stay for 3 days in Vico Equence to visit the Coast, and then going to Rome. We thought of Vico Equence as a base because it seemed more convenient to get to and from, without being as touristy or expensive as Sorrento. Could anyone suggest how to proceed for such a visit or…

I'm heading over to Finland on June 26th for a artist residency,

but i just found the festival Terraforma: http://www.terraformafestival.com/
Which I'm really drawn to.
I'm traveling solo, and have done in the past as well however i don't think i would feel ok about attending a camping festival solo.. Seeing as the camping environment seems to inspire people to think its ok to enter peoples tents uninvited.
I'm not sure of the exact nature of this festival although my previous festival experience…

Hello, we're a family of 3, ages 68, 52, and 14! We'll be spending the month of June in Italy. We are "slow" travelers, not liking to rush from one town to another. That is, we'd rather see two towns slowly than race through 8 of them.

First question is small: we have Bernina Express tickets to Tirano, arriving 1 pm, then we're meeting our Italian friend in Torino the next day. I don't hear great things about Tirano OR Milan, but we need to spend a night in one of them, OR in another town along…

Hello, we are visiting Italy in around mid June. We will be in Venice towards the end of our trip but have 2 1/2 days free before we head back to Milan to fly out. If weather permits, we would like to stay and hike the dolomites. I have a few questions:
1) What is the most efficient way to get from Venice to the Dolomites? I want to avoid renting a car because I am not sure of how difficult it is to drive the roads up the mountain.
2) There is much to see and we've seen some beautiful scenery. If…

Howdy, I'd love some help trying to find some hiking near Castellina in Chianti. I've googled and googled, but I can't find much other than the Via Francigena which doesn't interest us too much. We are a small group of women from Colorado in our 40s and 50s traveling to celebrate my friend's retirement from teaching. We will have a car, can hike for miles, and don't need much other than lovely scenery and no crowds. An added bonus would be to make a pit stop at a family run vineyard for wine…

I want to ask the question that is hard to answer, but I'll ask it anyway...is it safe to hike alone in the Dolomites? I am looking at doing either day hikes or maybe 2-3 day hikes staying at Refugio.

It seems like there are many hikes that are well populated, well marked, and not technical in any way. Any recommendations that would be better than others to do solo? Also, I'm curious to know what animals one might encounter in the Dolomites (I don't see mention of things like bear-spray being…

I am in my 30's and will be traveling alone for the first time to Italy in late May. I was hoping to go to the Amalfi Coast and had two questions:

  1. Is it better to stay in Sorrento or near Positano? I am looking for a place I can relax that feels authentic, but would also like a place where people are friendly and I can meet other travelers. Some people have told me Sorrento is packed with tourists and can be unpleasant. But, I am worried that Positano may not be the ideal place for…

My boyfriend and I have 8 days in Switzerland and Italy in late August. (Flying into Zurich and out of Milan-Malpensa.) We have decided to spend 5 days in Switzerland and then take the train from Bernese Oberland to Stresa, spend 1 night in Stresa, and then take the train to Milan and spend 2 nights in Milan. (We also looked at Lake Como but it seemed like too much of a detour from on the way to Milan). We are not sure if this plan is the best option and would like your advice.

Question: which…

Hi there,

I'm planning short vacation starting in Naples 28th of May and want to visit Sicily and be back to Naples to take a plane back on 6th of June. What I want is to visit Sicily (Modica, Etna, Catania, and Palermo is optional) during this stay. Fitting in some beach time would be nice as well.
There would be three of us including 3-years old daughter.

What transport options do I have? I currently see the following:
- night train Naples to Catania
- ferry from Naples to Palermo
- ride a car…

Hi, my wife and I will be in Italy for 12 nights (July 8 to july 20). We would have take more time, but since we leave the kids with the grandparents for that trip we dont want to exagerate ! We know that july will be hot, but being french teacher (and school psychologist for my wife) doesn't leave us much choice.

We want to enjoy at different pace we would have done with the kids. We want to have good late meals, good wine, see museums, get to historic places ...al things we wouldn't have done…
