Hitching

  • Hitching is never entirely safe in any country, and we don’t recommend it. Travellers who decide to hitch should understand that they are taking a small but potentially serious risk.
  • Hitching is extremely uncommon in Sardinia. Sardinians can be wary of picking up strangers, which makes travelling this way a frustrating business.
  • Look presentable, carry as little luggage as possible, and hold a sign in Italian indicating your destination.
  • Do not use the normal thumbs-up signal, as this can offend (in these parts it means ‘Up yours’!).
