Trattoria Da Cesare al Casaletto

Top choice trattoria in Trastevere & Gianicolo

Rome's best trattoria? Many think so and you will too after an amazing meal of Roman standards where virtually every dish is prepared just so. The restaurant is simplicity itself: dozens of tables in a plain setting – that in summer move outside under a vine-covered arbour on a vast terrace. The food is rightfully the star. The service is efficient and relaxed.

First courses are exquisite, especially the various versions of freshly fried fish and the meatballs – which could be called little balls of joy. Mains include silky fettuccine and gnocchi that defines the dish. Don't bother reading, just ask for the superb house wines priced incredibly cheap (€2.50 for a ¼ litre of red).
