Italian in Tridente, Trevi & the Quirinale

This charming bistro is run by two sisters who formerly produced a fashion magazine, hence the chic interior. The kitchen turns out Italian dishes with a contemporary twist: risotto may be presented in crisp pan-fried blocks, soups can be laced with coconut milk, fresh herbs are used to excellent effect. Be sure to order the home-made bread basket.

Romans flock here at weekends for Babette's good-value lunch buffet (€28, 1pm to 3pm), which includes water, bread, dessert and coffee. Breakfast (dishes €3 to €15) is popular, too.
