Cafe in Tridente, Trevi & the Quirinale

Overlooking the vast disc of Piazza del Popolo, this historic cafe from 1922 was once the hangout of the left-wing chattering classes. Authors Italo Calvino and Alberto Moravia drunk here while their right-wing counterparts went to the Canova across the square. Today tourists are the main clientele, and the views are as good as ever.

Drinking standing up at the bar will get you a reasonably priced coffee, while you'll pay a premium for a seat.
