Your guide will help you reconstruct the history of the birth, rise to power and collapse of Ancient Rome.With the Roman Forum behind you, your guide will skilfully merge the past with the present so that you will be able to compare the ruins you see today with the majestic reality of 2,000 years ago. What the Colosseum was really like for the spectators and the participants. The noise, the excitement, the fear, Walking past the 32 metre tall bronze statue of Emperor Nero to before entering the arena must have been daunting. It's original base still remains. At the Colosseum, we'll whisk you away from the busy main entrance to the hugely impressive Gladiator Gate, an alternative entrance reserved for just a few tour operators and their small groups of travelers. From the arena floor, your guide will explain the mechanics of the Colosseum at it's height in 81 AD when literally thousands of captives and many more wild animals were slain.Your guide will walk you around the circumference of the amphitheatre and up to it's mid-point from where you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the Colosseum underground below, the Palatine Hill in front of you, and the Roman Forum nearby.After a break for lunch we reconvene in the afternoon, this time at our Vatican City office.
