You will discover the beauty of Romanesque design and the rich tapestry of the Renaissance era. You will learn something of the history of Parma’s two great families, the Farnese and Bourbon’s and you will in particular learn of the celebrated Maria Luigia D’Austria
You will see Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata, then you will walk to the 16th century Palazzo della Pilotta, which was the home of the Farnese Family and is now a spectacular museum where a number of the city’s treasured art collections are on display. You will also see the Farnese Theatre, a magical wooden theatre where the first ever revolving stages were installed. Then it is on to the Piazza Duomo to see Parma’s magnificent Cathedral with its wonderfully frescoed Baptistery. No visit to Parma is complete without a visit inside the Baptistery but on this tour you also visit the interior of the cathedral and the Church of St. John where there are magnificent artworks by the great masters Correggio and Parmigianino. But, as well as the artistic treasures that await you in Parma there are some wonderful edible ones too! Your guide will take you on a walk around the food stores to sample some of the local specialities; from Parmesan to Prosciutto, don’t forget to buy something to take home with you!
