Caffè del Principe

Cafe in La Sanità & Capodimonte

This humble, piazza-side bar is named in honour of La Sanità's most famous son, the late comedian Totò (lovingly nicknamed 'The Prince'). While it lacks charm, the bar is a handy spot to perch yourself with a decent espresso while taking in the neighbourhood's raffish street life.

The bar also offers great views of two important street-art murals: Argentinian artist Francisco Bosoletti's Resis-ti-amo (Let's Resist/I Love You), on the exterior wall of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Sanità, and Spanish artist Tono Cruz's giant mural Luce (Light), depicting youthful faces from the neighbourhood's streets and alleys. Both works speak of hope for a long-suffering, socio-economically disadvantaged part of the city.
