Occupying a 16th-century monastery, this hotel is magnificent. The monks' cells have become classically elegant rooms, the ancient cloisters house an open-air bar, and the barrel-vaulted corridors are lined with contemporary art from the likes of Robert Rauschenberg and Hermann Nitsch. Capping it all is a lofty outdoor swimming pool with views of Capri and Vesuvius.
Offering panoramic views across the Gulf of Naples, the San Francesco al Monte is a restored 16th-century monastery. It features 2 rooftop pools, a rooftop restaurant and stylish rooms in converted monks' chambers. The San Francesco is located at the foot of the hill leading to Sant'Elmo Castle and the Certosa di San Martino Museum. The hotel is a 2-minute walk from the Corso Vittorio Emanuele Funicular Railway stop. You can admire the original frescoes and Mediaeval décor throughout the hotel. Rooms here all have views over the bay, with Mount Vesuvius in the background. They are all air conditioned and come with satellite TV, a minibar and a private bathroom with hydromassage shower or bath. Breakfast is buffet style and is served in La Terrazza dei Barbanti restaurant on the 4th floor. Here you can also enjoy Mediterranean cuisine at lunch and dinner.
Please note that the pool is only open from 15 May until 15 September, from 09:00 to 17:00. Parking access is only available from 07:00 until 22:00.
