Metro in Milan

This is the company behind the metro, buses, trams and the BikeMi bike-sharing scheme. The metro is the most convenient way to get around and consists of four underground lines (red M1, green M2, yellow M3 and lilac M5) and a suburban rail network, the Passante Ferroviario. Services run from around 5.30am to 12.30am. A ticket costs €1.50 and is valid for one metro ride or up to 90 minutes' travel on buses and trams.

Tickets are sold at metro stations, tobacconists and newspaper stands around town. You can buy a 10-ride pass for €13.80 or unlimited one-/two-day tickets for bus, tram and metro for €4.50/8.25. Tickets must be validated on trams and buses. Failure to do so can result in an on-the-spot fine of €35, plus the cost of the ticket.

Free route maps are available from the ATM Point in the Duomo metro station.
