One of Milan’s most interesting city secrets is the Albergo Diurno Venezia, which can be found in Piazza Oberdan. Translated literally as ‘Day Hotel’, it opened in 1926 with the aim of providing essential services – such as bathrooms, hair cuts and manicures – to day tripping visitors to the city. Covering 1200-sq-metres it is an art nouveau gem with vintage bathrooms and furnishings designed by Piero Portaluppi. It’s managed by FAI (www.fondoambiente.it) which hosts occasional open days with guided tours.
