Getting There & Away

Nuoro and Arbatax are the two most versatile points of entry for travellers to Eastern Sardinia. Nuoro is easily accessible by motorway from Cagliari, Sassari and Olbia, by bus from Olbia and by train from Macomer (Oristano province), while Arbatax receives regular ferry services from the Italian mainland. With your own wheels, however, you can easily dive in wherever you like – for example, make a beeline for the legendary beaches of Golfo di Orosei from Olbia (1½ hours), Sassari (two hours) or Cagliari (2½ hours). Once here, a car will likely come in handy, as many of Eastern Sardinia's prettiest destinations receive limited bus service.
