Cosenza in detail

Flights & getting there

Lamezia Terme Airport, 63km south of Cosenza, at the junction of the A2 and SS280 motorways, links the region with major Italian cities. The airport is served by Ryanair, easyJet and charters from northern Europe. A shuttle leaves the airport every 20 minutes for the airport train station, where Autolinee Romano runs two buses a day to Cosenza (€7, 70 minutes).

Cosenza's main bus station is northeast of Piazza Bilotti. Services leave from here for Catanzaro and towns throughout La Sila. Autolinee Preite has buses heading daily along the north Tyrrhenian coast; Autolinee Romano serves Crotone as well as Rome and Milan.

Stazione Nuova is about 2km northeast of the centre. Regular trains go to Reggio Calabria (from €15, 2¾ hours) and Rome (from €54, four to six hours), both usually with a change at Paola, and Naples (from €119, three to four hours), as well as most destinations around the Calabrian coast.

Regular buses link the centre and the main train station, although they follow a roundabout route.
