Exclusive Private Tour with licensed Local Guide and Top Class Mercedes Minivan. An active volcano for millions of years, Etna has marked the landscape with its lava flows, at times disastrous for the surrounding nature and for its inhabitants. The Sicilians call the massif that rises above them by a familiar term “A Muntagna”. Etna has also been dealing out benefits to the lands which lies at its feet. Enchanting Taormina lies on the slopes of Mount Taurus, the ancient Tauromenium of antiquity, enjoys a highly picturesque landscape for its wealth of panoramas and the intensity of its colors. The Greek Theater which looks onto a splendid gulf opening below is the most outstanding monument in Taormina for its artistic value and landscape setting.
Your guide will pick you up with a comfortable van. Then the day starts with a drive (2.5h) to Mount ETNA, that will take you up the till 6500 feet, where the eruption from 2001 left its mark at the Rifugio Sapienza. On the way admire the landscape and the vineyards growing in the shadow of Mount Etna inside the DOC wine production area. Enjoy a walk at the nearby Silvestri Craters (or take the funicular up to the top crater area at 9600 feet) and soak up the atmosphere of the volcano.  Possibility to stop en route at a local WINERY (optional) for a wine tasting before continuing to TAORMINA, the pearl of the Ionian Sea. Together we’ll visit this lovely town including the Greek Theatre which has inspired generations of travelers and artists. Drive back to your hotel in the late afternoon.
