Caltagirone is divided into an upper (alta) and lower (bassa) town, with everything of interest in the upper town. Orientate yourself around Piazza Municipio, the upper town's focal square. From here, the Scalinata di Santa Maria del Monte rises to the northeast, while shop-lined Via Vittorio Emanuele heads off west and Via Luigi Sturzo runs northeast to the Viale Regina Elena ring road. Just south of Piazza Municipio, Piazza Umberto connects with Via Roma, which runs down to the Giardino Pubblico. Buses stop in Piazza Umberto.
