Fiera di Sant'Orso

Art in Aosta

For more than 1000 years the annual winter wood fair has been held on January 30 and 31 around Porta Praetoria, in honour of the town's patron saint, who made wooden shoes for the poor (hence the many wooden shoes you'll see in craft shops around town).

Woodcarvers from all over the valley gather to display their works and present an item to the saint at the Chiesa di Sant'Orso.
