A bike could be useful for exploring out of town and reaching the beaches. Rentabike Raggi di Sardegna has an excellent range of bikes available for hire, costing from €5/8 per one/24 hours.

From the bus stop, bus line AF runs along the seafront and up to Fertilia. Tickets, available at newspaper stands and tabacchi (tobacconists), cost €1, although you can also buy them on-board for €1.50.

Car & Motorcycle

The best place to park in Alghero is at the large free car park on Via Garibaldi; it rarely gets so crowded that there’s no space.

All the major local and international car-hire companies have booths at Alghero airport.

Operating out of a hut on the seaward side of Via Garibaldi, Cicloexpress hires out cars (from €60 per day), scooters (from €30) and bikes (from €5).

Centro Storico Driving Alert!

Note that most of Alghero's historic centre is out of bounds to non-authorised drivers. If, by mistake, you enter the ZTL (zona a traffico limitato; limited traffic zone) you risk a fine, payable to your car-hire company if you're in a rental car.

The ZTL restrictions are lifted between 8am and 10.30am and then again from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

There’s a taxi rank by the Giardini Pubblici at Via Vittorio Emanuele 1. Otherwise you can call for one by phoning Alghero Radio Taxi.
