Walking Tour: Florentin Bar Crawl
- Start Romano, 9 Jaffa Rd
- End Satchmo, 2 Vital St
- Length 1.2km, five hours
Florentin, Tel Aviv's creative counter-culture enclave, is a great night out for soaking up some TLV hipster vibes. In true under-the-radar fashion, kick things off with dinner and drinks at Romano, hidden away in the old historic building of the same name. You'll find it behind an unsuspectingly dingy door that faces Jaffa Rd, upstairs from Teder.fm – which you'll wander down to next for a couple of rounds. Score a table in the open-air courtyard, softly aglow with strings of garden lights. It's easy to while away the hours here, tempted by a second dinner of a rad pizza slice bigger than your head – but boozing in the bowels of Florentin beckons.
Make your way west down Jaffa Rd and hook a left on Arbarbanel St, past the street-art murals that lead you to low-key Hoodna. Kick it here on one of the sofas that's been dragged out into the street or saddle up inside the bar. For a change of scenery, saunter down to the sparkly floored Different Vibes bar on the same street for a round of cocktails – and a vegan hot dog if you're feeling drunkenly peckish.
Head to the heart of the 'hood for a round at Jackson Bar on Vital St. The graffiti that adorns the walls sets the scene for stellar hip-hop jams and the dance floor gets especially lit every Wednesday night. Once you're sufficiently sauced, stumble back up the street to Satchmo, one of the oldest and most beloved old-school neighbourhood bars in Florentin. Don't miss it if you enjoy a stiff scotch or bourbon – with more than 70 varieties to choose from, it's the closest thing to a dedicated whiskey bar you'll find in the area. Ignited by such potent fuel on pour, it's no wonder crowds linger in this place. You'll surely be shoulder to shoulder with the stylish locals, but by this point in the night, things may be so blurry – and the people so beautiful – that you'll hardly mind.
