Dangers & Annoyances

Some parts of the Golan Heights – particularly those near the pre-1967 cease-fire lines and the 1974 armistice lines – are still sown with antipersonnel mines. Suspected minefields are surrounded by fences with red triangles and/or yellow signs dangling from the barbed wire.

Since 2011, Syria's brutal civil war has sometimes spilled over the cease-fire lines, with artillery rounds occasionally landing in Israeli-controlled territory.
