Getting There & Away
Bring waterproofs for the crossing – it can be a wild ride. Donegal Coastal Cruises runs passenger ferries to Tory Island from Bunbeg (1½ hours, one daily) and Magheraroarty (35 minutes, two daily). Normal service is April to September, with extra sailings in July and August, and fewer October to March; sailing times vary according to weather and tides, and it's not uncommon for travellers to be stranded on the island in bad weather.
Magheraroarty (Machaire Uí Robhartaigh) is 4km northwest of Gortahork on the R257; the road is signposted Coastal Route/Bloody Foreland. Bunbeg is in the southwest part of Gweedore district.
