Welcome to Slieve Bloom Mountains
Populated Ireland recedes into your rear-view mirror when you explore the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Although not as spectacular as some Irish ranges, their sudden rise from the Laois plain and the absence of visitors make them appealing. On the lower slopes there are a lot of generic conifer farms, but higher up the sense of being away from it all permeates as you explore deserted blanket bogs, moorland, pine forests and isolated valleys.
The website www.slievebloom.ie has comprehensive information and 16 downloadable looped walking routes.
