Ireland's answer to Glastonbury, albeit on a smaller scale, the annual Electric Picnic is a spirited three-day open-air arts and music festival. Known for its eclectic line-up, it hosts big-name and emerging Irish and international performers. Tickets sell out months in advance and most people camp, creating one vast communal party. The festival takes place 11km east of Portlaoise.
Since it began in 2004, performers have included Björk, The Chemical Brothers, Sinead O'Connor, Massive Attack, Blur, Arctic Monkeys and Wu-Tang Clan.
