Golf and surfing are the most popular activities, but Lahinch also has a scuba-diving academy.

Surf's Up!

Like swells after a storm, Clare's surfing scene keeps getting bigger and better. On weekends in Lahinch the exposed beach break, with both left-hand and right-hand waves, attracts hundreds of surfers.

Conditions are excellent for much of the year, with the bay's cliffs funnelling regular and reliable sets. Beginners will find the northern end gentler. Watch out for rocks and rips.

There are plenty of surf shops where you can rent gear and get lessons from around €35 per two-hour session. Board and (much-needed) wetsuit rental starts at €20 for two hours.

As the waters fill in Lahinch, surfers are seeking out less crowded spots along the coast such as Doonbeg and Fanore.
