City Walls

Parts of Kilkenny's medieval city walls, mostly dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, can still be seen in several places, notably at Talbot's Tower, Maudlin Tower and the Black Freren Gate – the only surviving city gate. Maudlin Castle, dating from around 1500, is a more substantial tower house and once protected the eastern approach to the city.
