Galway Race Week draws tens of thousands of punters for a week of partying. Races in Ballybrit, some 7km northeast of the city centre, are the centrepiece of Galway's most boisterous festival. Thursday's Ladies Day is a highlight, with best dressed and best hat competitions. Shuttle buses (return €9) link Galway city with the racecourse.
