Mt Leinster Heritage Drive

Borris is the starting point for the Mt Leinster Heritage Drive, a signposted 75km scenic loop through south Carlow taking in the villages of Bunclody (just over the border in Wexford), Clonegal, Kildavin, Myshall, Fenagh and Bagenalstown; pick up a free leaflet at any tourist office.

The route climbs across the Blackstairs Mountains, where the Nine Stones viewpoint offers a breathtaking panorama that takes in eight counties – on a clear day even the coast of Wales can be seen far to the east. Nine Stones is also a popular hang-gliding and paragliding site, and is the starting point for the easiest walking route to the top of Mt Leinster (796m), along a road that leads to the telecommunications mast on the summit (5km return trip; allow 1½ hours).
