Welcome to Garmeh
Surrounded by date palms clustered around a small warm-water spring clouded with fish, Garmeh is the classic desert oasis. The 1500-year-old mud-brick village at the heart of the oasis is currently enjoying something of a renaissance, driven by enterprising locals who have understood the village's attraction for tourists. There is a pleasant walk through the date palms and orchards (although locals are beginning to wall their properties against the incursion of fruit-picking tourists), and camel treks, hikes to hot-water springs and mountain-village visits are also possible to arrange. During summer it gets ridiculously hot here, but this at least offers the authentic desert experience.
