Welcome to Northwestern Baliem Valley
The western side of the Baliem Valley is less scenic than the eastern, but there are a few worthwhile attractions in the region. Kimbim is a pleasant administrative centre with a few shops and the main market outside Wamena, busiest on Monday and Saturday. An hour’s walk away, Araboda houses the 280-year-old Alongga Huby mummy; viewings cost around 80,000Rp plus another 50,000Rp to the holder. About 7km past Kimbim is Pyramid, a graceful mission village named after the shape of a nearby hill, with a theological college and sloping, out-of-use airstrip.
