Dangers & Annoyances
The streets and gang are usually safe but there are many annoyances. Touts offer Viagra and other tawdry diversions. You'll also grow weary of the cloying cries of 'massage?' and other dubious offers. But your biggest irritation will likely be the sclerotic traffic.
There are ongoing reports of injuries and deaths among tourists and locals due to arak (colorless, distilled palm wine) being adulterated with methanol, a poisonous form of alcohol. Avoid free cocktails and any offers of arak.
Postal agencies that can send mail are common.
Main Post Office On a little road east of Jl Raya Kuta, this small and efficient post office is well practised in shipping large packages.
There's no useful official tourist office. Places that advertise themselves as 'tourist information centres' are usually commercial travel agents, or worse: time-share apartment sales operations.
Travel with Children
Besides cavorting on the beach all day, there are other activities in Kuta, Legian and Tuban that will delight kids, including special youth-oriented surf lessons at all the major surf shops.
Waterbom Park This watery amusement park covers 3.8 hectares of landscaped tropical gardens. It has assorted water slides, swimming pools and play areas, a supervised park for children under five years old, and a ‘lazy river’ ride. Other indulgences include the ‘pleasure pool’, a food court and bar, and a spa.
