Tour description

Ubud is a typical Balinese village where nature and the arts flourish. Walk along the Ubud area and meet with one of the grandsons of the famous painter and architect, Mr Lempad in his house. Then, walk along the lush path of Campuhan Ridge before getting a foot reflexology at the local spa.

Explore and discover the many charms of Ubud on foot. Start with a visit of Ubud’s Sacred Monkey Forest. This heavily forested park features three ancient Hindu temples, beautiful jungle-covered statues and, of course, several groups of indigenous macaques.Continue along Hanoman Street to a local community space to learn how to make the unique Balinese offerings called Canang Sari, which are integral part of Balinese life and their gratitude to the Gods. Refresh with a chilled coconut before going on a stroll across Ubud’s bustling art market. Browse the colourful stalls filled with handicrafts and textiles, meet with friendly locals and bargain for unique souvenirs. Enter the somewhat inconspicuous gate to the house compound of well-known Ubud painter and architect I Gusti Nyoman Lempad. Along with other big names in Bali’s art scene, he formed the Pita Maha, a group of inspiring artists founded in 1936. He has built many of the palaces and temples in Ubud and it neighbouring villages. His grandson I Gusti Gede Udayana is often at the house and will be happy to share his grandfather’s stories.Enjoy a typical Balinese dish at a local eatery. Be amazed by the delicate mix of spices and the unique marinade of Babi Guling, literally suckling pig. Continue to Puri Lukisan, a museum dedicated to the modern Balinese art movement, when artists began to switch from purely religious themes to scenes from everyday life. It displays examples of all schools of Balinese art, among them also the works of Lempad. Head to Ubud bridge and hike up one of Ubud’s most scenic walking paths. Wander amid the verdant fields with panoramic views onto the surrounding lush valleys. At the end of the path a foot massage and a tranquil spa awaits.
