Mountain bikers can escape all that dirty, noisy motor traffic with a ride on the dedicated mountain-bike trail opened in 2017 through Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, south of Ghum. The route winds about 14km through pine forests, with gentle gradients and Himalayan viewpoints (total distance from Darjeeling: about 23km one way). Day-trip guides from Darjeeling agencies cost ₹1000 to ₹1500, with bike rental around ₹1000.
Motor vehicles are banned from the trail, which is part of an old track between Darjeeling and Kurseong. You can stop for tea at Chatakpur village inside the forest, where there are also cottages and homestays should you want to stay the night.
