The vast majority of visitors sleep at Korzok but there are alternative options at scrappy Thukje near Tso Khar, aimed largely at birdwatchers; traditional homestays in several Rong villages (notably at Himya); and basic rooms near Sumdo that might be useful for cyclists.

The best deals in Korzok are in simple homestay-guesthouses. Our favourites are Goose Homestay, which has lake views from its two best rooms, and Crane Homestay, which lacks a family vibe but boasts views and helpful English-speaking host Choktup. A step up is a room with en suite booth-bathrooms at Dolphin Guest House.

Korzok's only 'hotel' is the Lake View; its rooms are pleasantly appointed, even if the public areas feel like a building site.

Tent Camps

Korzok has six bedded-tent camps at prices that are variable according to demand. It's always cheaper to simply turn up rather than prebook in Leh. There are also sheltered stream-side camping spots nearby. At the north end of town, Tsomoriri Resort & Camp has good tents and decent views.

Thukye (Tso Kar)

Overlooking the crane breeding grounds at end-of-the-world Thukje beside Tso Khar, rooms 107 to 112 of motel-like Tsokar Eco Resort are the area's only en suite rooms, though there are bedded tents with attached bathrooms at next door Lotus Camp and at cheaper, simpler two-tent Tsepal Guest House.
