Welcome to Tso Moriri Loop
The 215km drive from Leh takes you past the lovely villages (notably Likche and Himya) of the Indus Valley known as Rong, and returns via the salt lake of Tso Khar, where birdwatchers scan for black-necked cranes between June and late September. You finish off on a section of the Manali–Leh highway, crossing en route the very impressive 5328m Taglang La, one of the world's highest motorable passes.
Far fewer tourists come to Tso Moriri in comparison to Pangong Tso, which is why we like it, and there's more to do, from trekking and climbing routes to encounters with local herders. Most people visit on a two- or three-day loop from Leh, overnighting at Korzok.
