Tour description

Your local host Raghav has been fortunate to be born in an erstwhile royal family of Udaipur, which has an unbroken lineage of over 1400 years. He lives with his beautiful children and wife in their ancestral home with magnificent views of the valley. The cooking class will be conducted by the resident chef, who has worked with them for the last 20 years and knows all the secret family recipes! He will reveal few closely guarded secrets behind the Mewar cuisine of Indian royalty. The royal cuisine of Mewar is usually simple, rustic yet flavorsome and depends quintessentially on dry fruits, spices and fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats of the season. In your 1 hour hands-on cooking class, you will join the family chef to make Hare bater (farmed quails in a green curry) and dal chitrakoot (lentils from Chittor) and will learn to combine local produce with old traditional recipes before you sit down to enjoy the meal with your host and his family.

Raghav is semi-retired and is very passionate about horse riding and polo, he even plays with the Indian Army Polo team. Having served in the Indian army with a honors in history, Raghav has some very interesting stories to share. In Raghav’s family, cooking is treated as an art acquired over many generations, and they can truly boast about some of the finest royal recipes in the country. Their chef also fondly called as 'Rasordar' prepares the food with locally sourced, organic produce and authentic flavours for a holistic culinary experience. Your experience takes place in Raghav’s ancestral home which is an 18th century castle. It is a beautiful palace like home decorated with artifacts and has a large courtyard with a bird’s eye view of the city. The courtyard also adorns an 18th century family temple that has been restored beautifully, adding to the elegant charm of the place. While you sip on your welcome drink Raghav will give you great insight into the Mewari and Rajasthani food, culture and traditions. Raghav can offer vegetarian meals on request. As they run a home stay, you might see other guests while you are there, however your experience will be private. In case you’re allergic or scared of dogs or cats, please let Raghav know and he can keep them away.
