Situated at an altitude of 2730 m, Sonamarg, also known as “The Meadow of Gold” has snowy mountains in the background against a cerulean sky. The Sindh River which meanders through the valley is abundant with trout and Mahseer. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas Glacier, which is a major local attraction during the summer months. Currently, Pahalgam is Kashmir’s premier resort, cool even during the height of summer, reaching a maximum temperature of 25C. Next, take a leisurely stroll or a pony ride across the beautiful pinewoods to Baisaran, a place known amongst tourists as Mini-Switzerland (Baisaran).
