Getting There & Away
The NST bus station has one daily bus to Imphal (₹200, six hours, 7.30am). There's no advance booking so get there early. Another option for Imphal is to get a Dimapur–Imphal minibus to pick you up at TCP Junction as they pass through Kohima (normally around 9.30am, 1.30pm and 11.30pm). Call the Dimapur Winger counter. You may have to pay the full Dimapur–Imphal fare (₹700) or even more.
Seven-passenger vans depart for Dimapur (₹300, 3½ hours, from 5am) when full, from the street corner at the south end of the NST bus station.
Private buses for the long rides to Mon (18 hours), Shillong (11 hours) and Guwahati (13 hours), costing between ₹750 and ₹900, leave from stops on NH2 (old NH39) in the AOC area about 2km south of the city centre. Network Travels has the best service, leaving for Shillong and Guwahati at 2.30pm. Blue Hill has a noon departure to Mon. The companies' counters here open erratically: best chances are in the hour or so before departures.
City Stationery, opposite IDBI Bank, has comfortable seven-passenger Innova cars departing for Shillong (₹1200, 10 hours) at 6am Monday to Saturday.
A car and driver for a day out to Kisama and Khonoma costs about ₹2500.
