Almost any experienced safari-goer will tell you that while a 4WD safari is wonderfully exciting and allows you to get close to the big-name creatures, nothing beats the drama of a walking safari, which allows you to touch, smell and hear the jungle in a way that is impossible in a 4WD. A good guide will bring the environment to life and point out the little things that keep the ecosystem ticking over.
A 4km trail starts from Khatia gate and skirts the edge of the reserve's core zone before looping back to the village. Mostly you’ll see monkeys and birds, but tigers do venture into this area on occasions and an accompanying guide is obligatory.
Many top-end accommodation options also organise buffer-zone nature walks. These are normally complimentary for guests.
