Hoping someone might know about this - I recently chatted with a fellow traveller who had mentioned he'd used a Gurudwara in Gwalior for accommodation. Great I said, as I'd noticed there's only one budget-ish accommodation in the latest LP.
Now that I'm looking for this in Google maps, I'm not sure which it would be - I thought it was more likely either the one at Phoolbagh or Noorganj rather than the one in the fort itself - had anyone got experience of staying at one of these?!
Thanks in advance…
Sorry this is a partial copy of a reply to the recent thread about sim cards for India, but I had come on to post about Airtel and the other post's replies confidently included a similar issue.
After purchase a PAYG sim in January, and making irregular calls and texts - no data used at all - service dropped a couple of weeks ago. I was told in an Airtel store that the number had been deleted, and I'd been getting a series of text messages with different details of the same issue of needing to…
we would like to travel through the Dah - Hanu Valley this year coming from the Kargil side. Do you know if the ILP can be obtained in Kargil or is it only available in Leh?
If you're arriving in India soon, or in the next couple of weeks, you might want to (tho I rarely suggest this) bring some extra foreign cash to exchange.
For the last few days, ATMs in quite a lot of north India are running on empty - yesterday, it took me 5 ATMs to finally find a working one. And in today's paper, there are reports of empty ATMs at both Delhi & Mumbai airports.
Proceed with caution. And cross your fingers.
Ahem, this problem should be resolved in a couple of weeks. They're…
I'll be cycle touring the North of India in the coming months. (Shimla, Manali, Leh, Kargil, Srinagar, Amritsar)...something like that :)
How easy is it to pick up a SIM card in country these days?? It's been a few years since I've spent a longer time in India requiring a SIM. Last time it was turned around in less than 24 hrs......is this still the case?
Wondering which Telco offers the best coverage in the North? Looking for Calls / Txt / Data for a 3 month period.
Thanks if you can…
I'm planning to travel to India in late September/early October of this year with my boyfriend.
The best value flights we have found are for 15nights arriving in New Delhi and departing from Mumbai.
I read several articles online about focusing on one area or 'experiance' for such a short trip but also read that it's possible to do a bit more if we fly between destinations. Neither of us have been to India before and would like to sample a little of lots of experiences. It's also the only…
Looking for some trekking options for India/Nepal in September or October. I've done a lot of hiking elsewhere in the world but not in high mountains (other than the Inca trail years ago!). I'm trying to weigh up between doing the Markha Valley trek in Ladakh, Roopkund in Uttarakhand, Rupin Pass in Himachel, or the Lantang/Gosainkunda trek in Nepal.
Forgetting the difference in days between them, would anyone care to make any suggestions? I get the geographical and cultural differences - just…
I am going to do research for my dissertation in India end of June until end of July in India. I want to combine this with some sightseeing and travelling and as I always wanted to see Kathmandu I thought it would be a good idea to travel from Kathmandu do New Delhi. The thing I am concerned about now is the weather. I am not particularly interested in hiking in Nepal, I want to go there more for the culture, so this should be fine. However, I read there is a possibility that trains…
